Soapbox
Soapbox is one of the many galleries in Our Community. Whenever there
is an opening, people come from all over the city to drink wine, be
a part of the scene, and perhaps look at the work. Like a lot of the
galleries in Williamsburg, Soapbox is located in a commercial space,
which is raw and somewhat hard to find amidst the predominately Latino
and Polish communities who have made the area a home for many years.
Soapbox is a really cool space which doesn't look anything like a Chelsea
gallery, though I think people sometimes try to pretend that it does.

El
Sol
El
Sol is a restaurant and bar located on the corner of Marcy and Hope, close
to Soapbox Gallery, which serves Puerto Rican cuisine. The chicken and
plantains they make are often deep fried. After openings at Soapbox, everyone
heads over to El Sol, dances merengue, and crowds around tables drinking
beer. The Latino guys who hang out at the bar will gladly teach you how
to dance the merengue if you want to learn. I have tried and it is really
hard to move your hips like that. I will go back to practice more soon.

C-Town
C-Town
is a popular grocery market chain in Our Community. Everybody -- no matter
what part of the neighborhood of Our Community they are in -- shops there.
They have the best prices on buttermilk, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish,
and Breakstones butter.
